Current U.S. President Donald Trump proposed a plan to relocate Gaza’s residents, describing the region as a “demolition site” after the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump suggested Egypt and Jordan take in Palestinians, aiming to create peace in the Middle East.
He claimed to have discussed the matter with Jordan’s King Abdullah II and planned to consult Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Trump estimated about 1.5 million people could be moved, either temporarily or permanently, due to the destruction in Gaza.
He proposed collaborating with Arab nations to build housing elsewhere, offering Palestinians a chance for peaceful living.
Gaza, home to 2.4 million people, has faced widespread destruction and displacement since the conflict erupted following Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel.
Trump also took credit for a fragile truce and hostage deal between Israel and Hamas, signed on Joe Biden’s last day in office, despite no concrete details about his Middle East policy.
Additionally, Trump announced the release of U.S. Pentagon-held bombs purchased by Israel, reversing a decision by Biden’s administration to block the shipment.
Trump reiterated that Gaza, if reconstructed, could become a prosperous region comparable to Monaco.
The idea of relocating Gaza’s population has drawn criticism, with many Palestinians equating it to the Nakba—the mass displacement that occurred during Israel’s creation 75 years ago.
Some Israeli officials have publicly supported such proposals, although the Israeli government denies any plans for forced relocation.
