President Bola Tinubu has declared an emergency on training facilities for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other internal security agencies, expressing concern over their deteriorating condition.
The announcement was made by Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, who chairs the National Economic Council (NEC) ad-hoc Committee on the Overhaul of Security Training Institutions, during an inspection visit to facilities in Lagos.
Mbah, accompanied by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Committee Secretary and former Inspector-General of Police Alkali Usman Baba, and Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu of the Special Protection Unit (SPU), said the committee has 30 days to present a detailed report to NEC for implementation.
He noted that President Tinubu voiced strong concern over the continued use of obsolete facilities to train security personnel expected to operate with professionalism and uphold human dignity.
According to Mbah, the President gave the directive during the last NEC meeting on October 23, stressing that the poor state of security training institutions “does not align with his vision of growing the economy to one trillion dollars in the next five years.”
He added that Tinubu underscored the urgent need to modernise these institutions to meet international standards.
