In a recent development, Nigerian skit maker Maruf Abdullahi, popularly known as Trinity Guy, has regained his freedom from prison after successfully meeting the bail conditions set by the court.

The news of his release was made known by fellow skit maker Cute Abiola through a heartfelt post on his Facebook page on Friday night, July 21, 2023.

Joyful Reunion

Cute Abiola’s post expressed excitement and support for Trinity Guy, welcoming him back into the outside world after the ordeal he faced.

The post was met with numerous well-wishes and prayers for Trinity’s journey ahead.

The Allegations and Legal Proceedings

On July 11, 2023, a Family Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, ordered Trinity Guy to be remanded in the Agodi correction centre on allegations of sexually exploiting a 10-year-old girl.

Alongside Trinity, the parents of the victim, Abdullahi (31), Isiaka Ahmed (40), and Rofiat Ahmed (29), were also ordered to remain in Agodi as investigations continued.

Charges and Prosecution

The police had charged Abdullahi, along with the parents of the victim, with conspiracy and sexual abuse/exploitation.

Police Prosecution Counsel, Oluwakemi Arowosaye, informed the court that the three defendants were accused of conspiring to sexually abuse the young girl.

Additionally, Trinity Guy was alleged to have sexually abused and exploited the child in the Kuolaa area of Ibadan on December 17, 2022.

Arowosaye revealed that Abdullahi recorded the incident and posted it on social media, adding further gravity to the charges against him.

Legal Implications

According to the prosecution counsel, the offences committed by the skit maker contravene Section 35 (1) of the Oyo State Child Rights Law, 2006, and are punishable under Section 35 (2) of the same law. The charges also contravene Section 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

If Trinity Guy is found guilty of the offences, he could face up to 15 years of imprisonment under the Child Rights Law, 2006.

Trinity Guy’s release on bail brings both relief and anticipation for the unfolding legal proceedings. Supporters and well-wishers are hopeful for a fair and just resolution, as they stand by him during this challenging time.

As the matter is adjourned until August 3, 2023, all eyes are on the court for further updates on the case.
