iDeemlawfulThe abducted 38 worshippers of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained freedom.
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who made the announcement on Sunday, described the operation as a vigorous collaboration between security agencies and government authorities.
Governor AbdulRazaq credited the successful rescue mission to what he called President Bola Tinubu’s “hands-on approach,” noting that the President personally oversaw efforts to secure the release of the abducted individuals.
He disclosed that President Tinubu cancelled his scheduled trip to the G20 meeting in South Africa to concentrate on security incidents in Kwara and Kebbi States, adding that the President also ordered reinforced security deployments to the impacted locations.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police Force, which recently sent four additional tactical teams to Kwara under the President’s directive.
The gunmen on Friday stormed the church during a service, killing at least two worshippers and abducting 38, including the pastor.
The kidnappers later reached out to family members and demanded a ransom of 100 million naira for each of the victims.
However, it remains unclear whether any ransom was paid for the victims to regain freedom.
