The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has reportedly reacted to President Donald Trump’s recent threat to launch military action in Nigeria.
Recall that the U.S. leader recently designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” and directed the Department of War to prepare for potential operations over the alleged genocide against Christians in the country.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed in a report posted on his official X handle that the terrorist group responded to Trump’s remarks through a “propaganda message circulated on its usual communication channels.”
According to Makama, ISWAP described Trump as a “reckless American tyrant,” alleging that the U.S. President was being influenced by “evangelical Christian and Jewish advisers” during his administration.
The group also claimed that Trump’s actions reflected an effort by the United States to present itself as a “global defender of Christians.”
Makama noted that ISWAP warned its members against using smartphones, urged them to avoid crowded places, and to restrict their movements.
In its message, the extremist group called on Muslims across West Africa to “unite” and take the alleged U.S. threat seriously, accusing the West of committing “crimes against African Muslims.”
President Trump had earlier warned the Nigerian government to act swiftly to address the alleged Christian genocide or face possible military action. However, the Federal Government dismissed the accusation, insisting that both Christians and Muslims are victims of insecurity in the country.
