Tension has gripped Benin City, Edo State, after angry residents stormed the home of a woman accused of poisoning her stepdaughter, identified as Sarah Agahowa, following the young girl’s recent admission to study Nursing.
According to reports circulating on social media, the stepmother allegedly poisoned Sarah out of jealousy after discovering she had gained admission into a nursing programme at the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor.
Videos from the scene captured residents and family members confronting the woman, who appeared frightened and defensive as the crowd demanded justice for the deceased. Some community elders were heard urging calm, but the mob continued chanting “Justice for Sarah.”
The tragic incident has sparked outrage online, with many Nigerians condemning the rise in domestic jealousy, witchcraft-related accusations, and family violence.
A social media user, Eunice, reacted saying:
“How can a woman hate her husband’s child to the point of taking her life? This kind of wickedness is beyond understanding.”
Another commenter, Akinmoyo, urged the police to take swift action.
“This is heartbreaking. The authorities must ensure a proper investigation. If she’s guilty, she deserves to face the law.”
