A tragic incident occurred early Thursday morning, resulting in the death of Yahaya Isma’il Idris, a 35-year-old officer with the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA). The incident took place during a routine inspection on Maiduguri Road in Kano metropolis around 4:30 a.m.According to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, Officer Idris was conducting a standard verification of a truck loaded with goods when he stopped the vehicle, a white truck with registration number BWR 457 XC. The driver, 25-year-old Yakubu Abdulsalam from Fika Local Government Area in Yobe State, was accompanied by two passengers: Tunde Momodu, 31, from Edo State, and Sagir Yusuf, 21, from Bichi Local Government Area in Kano State.When Officer Idris requested a waybill for the goods, the driver failed to provide the necessary documentation. In an attempt to conduct a thorough investigation, the officer boarded the truck. However, the situation escalated when the driver allegedly sped off. As the truck approached the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange flyover, the officer was reportedly pushed out of the moving vehicle by the suspects.Officer Idris suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities are actively investigating the incident, and the suspects are expected to face legal action for their roles in this tragic event.
