Amodu Shehu, the son of a prominent pepper seller at Oyingbo Market, has announced his candidacy for the position of Chairman in the upcoming council elections for Lagos Mainland Local Government.

He said he was running to bring effective and inclusive leadership to the local government.

“With my success story as a son of a pepper seller, in a community filled with broken dreams and unfulfilled aspirations, I boldly say, nobody knows where the shoe hurts, more than my humble self, and together with your support we can better the fortune of the unborn children,” Shehu said.

During the declaration, Shehu pledged to focus on education, health, youth empowerment, infrastructure, and economic growth in the Lagos Mainland.

He emphasized his experience in both the private and financial industries as valuable assets that he offers to his candidacy.

“With love for our community and a fierce commitment to a vision of rapid progress for our ever-growing population, and following wide-ranging consultations, I offer myself to serve you as the next Lagos Mainland Local Government Chairman. I seek the opportunity to offer our communities visionary, purposeful, and competent leadership to build our future. He stated.

“Fellow mainlanders, it is with pleasure and all sense of calmness that I inform you, I come aboard this contestation of ideas, and values with a daring wealth of experience at several levels, ranging from private sector exposure as an ICT expert, and an in-depth knowledge about financial sector having spent over a decade in a topmost tier II financial institution.” He further stated.

He urged APC leaders, community development associations, and residents to support his campaign.

“To support me on this mission, to implement the well-thought-out solutions to our current socio-economic realities, which I have crafted and will be unveiling for your scrutiny at this moment,” He added.

Market leader, identified as Mama Iyabo, said, Shehu’s grassroots background and long-standing ties to the community made him a relatable candidate.

“Shehu is one of us. He grew up here, understands how our markets work, and knows the issues the community faces daily. He is someone who can speak for us with experience and sincerity,” she said.

Youth leader and Ward G Councillor, Biliaminu Saka, said Shehu’s candidacy reflects the growing interest of young people in leadership.

“Shehu represents a generation that is ready to lead. He brings energy, new ideas, and has been consistent in engaging with the youth. We’re looking forward to what he can achieve,” he said.

Also, Ward D Councillor, Ayodele Isiekwene, noted the level of support Shehu has received.

He concluded by saying; “Amodu’s support shows that the people are ready for a leader who understands their priorities. He has built trust over time, and many believe he will represent them well as Lagos mainland APC Chairman.”
