{"id":9708,"date":"2022-10-22T08:26:22","date_gmt":"2022-10-22T08:26:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ideemlawful.com\/?p=9708"},"modified":"2022-10-22T08:27:33","modified_gmt":"2022-10-22T08:27:33","slug":"we-begged-tinubu-to-endorse-sanwo-olu-for-second-term-lagos-can","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ideemlawful.com\/wp\/we-begged-tinubu-to-endorse-sanwo-olu-for-second-term-lagos-can\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;We Begged Tinubu To Endorse Sanwo-Olu For Second Term&#8221; \u2013 Lagos CAN"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>The Lagos State chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Stephen Adegbite, a bishop, has said the church\u2019s intervention helped the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, secure the ticket of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), for a second term in office.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adegbite revealed in an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/punchng.com\/sanwo-olu-almost-denied-second-term-ticket-we-begged-tinubu-can-chairman\/\"><strong>interview<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;published by the Punch on Saturday that the Christian body begged the state\u2019s former governor and presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu, to allow the governor go for a second term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He spoke on the backdrop of Tinubu\u2019s choice of the former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, a Muslim like himself, which has attracted condemnation largely from the Christian community in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking on Tinubu\u2019s embrace of Islam and Christianity, he said the presidential candidate gave CAN five plots of land in the state capital,<strong>&nbsp;\u201c<\/strong>not in Alimosho, not in Epe, not in Ikorodu but in the central business area of Ikeja, and that is where we are going to have our secretariat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He argued that the former governor returned missionary schools previously run by the government to their owners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also said the presidential candidate formed the pilgrimage ad hoc committee that transmuted into the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, allowing many Christians to go to the holy land on government sponsorship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201c<\/strong>Bola Tinubu accepted that a Christian must also rule as a governor, and that was why we had (Akinwunmi) Ambode. After four years of Ambode, he was removed and was not given the opportunity to rule for a second term. Babajide Sanwo-Olu won the election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe (Sanwo-Olu) narrowly escaped not being allowed to go for a second term, but the Church in Lagos also stood and approached Tinubu that he should be allowed because Muslims had ruled Lagos State for 15 years, so Christians should continue for, at least, another four years. He (Tinubu) agreed, and that is why Sanwo-Olu is contesting again,\u201d Adegbite said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The ICIR&nbsp;<\/strong>reports that since Tinubu left office as the state governor in 2007, he has become a kingmaker in Lagos State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While declaring his interest in the presidency in January, he\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bing.com\/ck\/a?!&amp;&amp;p=aa6342cf592d5293JmltdHM9MTY2NjMxMDQwMCZpZ3VpZD0wMjRlMGM2OS01Y2I3LTYxMDItMmFkMS0xZTRkNWRiMTYwNDImaW5zaWQ9NTM3NA&amp;ptn=3&amp;hsh=3&amp;fclid=024e0c69-5cb7-6102-2ad1-1e4d5db16042&amp;psq=a+kingmaker+can+become+king%2c+Tinubu&amp;u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cudGhlY2FibGUubmcvbm8tcnVsZS1zYXlzLWtpbmdtYWtlci1jYW50LWJlY29tZS1raW5nLXRpbnVidS1zcGVha3Mtb24tcHJlc2lkZW50aWFsLWFtYml0aW9uIzp-OnRleHQ9Qm9sYSUyMFRpbnVidSUyQyUyMGElMjBmb3JtZXIlMjBnb3Zlcm5vciUyMG9mJTIwTGFnb3MlMjBzdGF0ZSUyQyxjYW5kaWRhdGUlMjBpbiUyMDIwMTUlMkMlMjB0aHVzJTIwZWFybmluZyUyMGhpbSUyMHRoZSUyMG1vbmlrZXIu&amp;ntb=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">said<\/a><\/strong>, \u201cno rule says kingmaker can\u2019t become king,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his argument for Tinubu\u2019s presidency, the Lagos State CAN chairman said the former governor had done enough for Christians and people from other faiths in the state to make him have their votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said after the Christians in Nigeria kicked against his selection of his Muslim running mate, the candidate and his party apologized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asked by his interviewer if the apology was enough to appease the critics, he said, \u201cThat is what they (APC) want to adopt, and the position of the vice president is not the only position in a government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added, \u201cThe vice president acts on what the President tells him to do. If you look at the constitution of Nigeria, the vice president has virtually no responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are other offices we must concentrate on; that is why politics is about negotiation.
