Dino Melaye, the former Kogi West senator, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a resignation letter shared on his official X account on Thursday, dated July 4, 2025, and addressed to the chairman of the PDP in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye announced his immediate withdrawal from all party activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation\u201d, the letter partly read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Melaye, who once served as the PDP\u2019s candidate in the 2023 Kogi State governorship election, said his decision followed deep reflection on the party\u2019s current state and trajectory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHaving carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in the activities of the parties or lend my support to her agenda\u201d, the letter continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further requested that his resignation be treated as a formal and total withdrawal from all party levels and structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn view of the above, please consider this as my formal withdrawal from the party and all its activities at all levels with immediate effect\u201d, the letter added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his closing remarks, Melaye expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve under the party\u2019s platform during his time as a member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThank you for the opportunity to serve under the platform during my period of membership,\u201d the letter concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Melaye is a member of the opposition coalition, which adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the 2027 elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He represented Kogi West in the eighth National Assembly between 2015 and 2019. He is also an ally of Atiku Abubakar, the former vice-president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In September 2024, the PDP ward in Aiyeroro Gbede suspended Melaye over alleged anti-party activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
