House of Reps approves Tinubu’s Emergency Declaration in Rivers State

The House of Representatives has approved the declaration of state of emergency rule in Rivers state.

This followed a letter from President Bola Tinubu asking the House of Representatives to approve his declaration of a state of emergency in the South-South state.

The House voted in support of the declaration during a plenary session on Thursday.

According to the Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbass, 240 lawmakers attended the session, meaning there was a quorum.

Tinubu on Tuesday declared a state of emergency in Rivers following the protracted political crisis in the oil rich South-South state.

He suspended Governor Sim Fubara, his deputy, and members of the Rivers state assembly of assembly for six months.

The president thereafter nominated Ibok-Ete Ibas, a retired vice-admiral and former chief of naval staff, as the administrator
