Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has officially transferred state duties to his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal, as he prepares to embark on a one-month vacation.

This was revealed in a formal notification letter addressed to the House of Assembly, which was read during plenary on Tuesday.

In the letter, read by the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, Governor Makinde announced his intention to proceed on leave from August 29 to September 29, 2025.

The notification complies with Section 190(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which mandates governors to inform their state assemblies before proceeding on vacation.

Makinde’s letter further confirmed that all gubernatorial duties would be handled by Deputy Governor Barrister Bayo Lawal, who will serve as Acting Governor throughout the leave period.

“I hereby transmit that during the period indicated above, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, shall serve as Acting Governor. I shall resume duty upon my return from vacation on Monday, 29th September 2025,” the letter read in part.

Acknowledging the letter, the Speaker assured the Assembly’s support in ensuring a seamless transition of responsibilities during Makinde’s absence.

He reaffirmed the House’s commitment to upholding constitutional order and maintaining smooth governance in Oyo State.

With the governor’s formal notice and the Assembly’s confirmation, Barrister Bayo Lawal is expected to take full control of state affairs from August 29 until Governor Makinde resumes office on September 29, 2025.

The House is scheduled to reconvene on September 16, 2025.
