The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, joined other dignitaries in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, for the coronation of Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
He was welcomed by Oyo Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Mojeed Mogbonjubola, senior government officials, and representatives of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA). The Sultan arrived with traditional aides, Muslim leaders, and top dignitaries from Sokoto.
On arrival, the Sultan described the coronation as “a celebration of unity, heritage, and leadership,” stressing that his presence also reaffirmed the bond between northern and southwestern traditional institutions.
The new Olubadan will be formally installed today at the historic Mapo Hall.
The coronation ceremony is expected to attract high-profile guests, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, ministers, governors, and other top personalities.
Among dignitaries already seated at Mapo Hall are two former Ogun State governors, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
Oba Ladoja was confirmed as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland after his nomination by the Olubadan-in-Council during its meeting at the new Olubadan Palace, Oke-Aremo, Ibadan, on Monday, August 4.
His nomination followed the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died on July 7, 2025, at the age of 90, after spending less than a year on the throne.
