Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his disapproval of Vinícius Jr.’s exclusion from the Ballon d’Or award, calling it “unfair”. He commended the Globe Soccer Awards for their integrity.

At the 2024 Globe Soccer Awards, where Vinícius secured the Best Men’s Player award, Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his belief that Vinícius should have been crowned the Ballon d’Or winner.

Ronaldo asserted that Vinícius deserved the honor, calling its omission “unjust.” He praised the Globe Soccer Awards for their integrity, saying they prioritize fairness.

The ceremony celebrated football’s finest, with Real Madrid’s Vinícius Jr. also claiming the Best Forward award after an extraordinary season.

Jude Bellingham, another Real Madrid star, took home the Best Midfielder award as well as the Maradona Award, cementing his growing reputation in the sport.

Neymar Jr. was honoured with the Player Career Award, recognising his exceptional contributions to football, while Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal was named Best Emerging Talent, underscoring his bright future.

Meanwhile, the Ballon d’Or was awarded to Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri for his pivotal role in winning the Premier League and leading Spain to Euro 2024 glory.

Real Madrid, however, boycotted the Ballon d’Or ceremony, accusing its organisers of disrespecting Vinícius.

Although Rodri had notable accomplishments, such as being the Euro 2024 Player of the Tournament, his win was unexpected.

Vinícius was widely favored choice before the ceremony due to Real Madrid’s success in winning both La Liga and the Champions League.
