The management of University of Ibadan, Oyo state, has announced increment in the acceptance fee for newly-admitted students.

While announcing on the official website of the school and undergraduate admission portal, the newly admitted students are to pay N50,000 as their Acceptance Fee.
The increment has attracted public attention and led to different opinions from parents, students and stakeholders.

The increment in the Acceptance fee for newly-admitted students was said to be from 37,500 naira only to 50,000 as compared to the previous session. The University of Ibadan (UI) in Oyo state is an institution owned by the Federal Government.
The school management announced on the undergraduate admission portal that each student is required to pay N50,000 as the acceptance fee.

The announcement reads thus:

“Candidates who have been offered provisional admission and have generated their admission letters on CAPS are hereby advised to proceed with the payment of a non-refundable Acceptance Fee of N50,000 only.
”Speaking with The Guardian about the increment, a parent, who is also a lecturer at the University of Ibadan, said: “It is serious. I have to pay an acceptance fee of N50,000 for my child.”

Adejoke Akinpelu, the principal assistant registrar and public relations officer of the Directorate of Public Communication, confirmed the hike and said only the registrar could speak on reasons the management came up with the increment.Group kicks, and calls for the reversal of UI’s acceptance fee increment.
Concerned Students Against Tuition Fees (CSATF) is a Movement of student activists and concerned stakeholders in the education system.

In statement signed and released by its coordinator, Aduwo Ayodele and the secretary, Kareem Abdullahi, the group called for the reversal of the institution’s acceptance fee increment.

According to the statement, the group said it is against the decisions of the university management to increase the acceptance fee from N37,500 to N50,000.
