The Nigerian Army announced that its troops have rescued two kidnap victims during a security operation in Babanla, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The federal government had earlier deployed a full Army Brigade to the state on Thursday to flush out criminals hiding in the expansive forests across Kwara North and South zones.
Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Polycarp Okoye, confirmed the rescue in a statement issued on Saturday.
Okoye said the operation followed an on-site visit by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Major General C.R. Nnebeife.
He explained that Nnebeife and his team advanced into the Babasango forest through Babanla, where they located and freed the abducted victims.
According to Okoye, the rescued individuals were handed over to the traditional ruler of Idofin Odo-Ase Ayekale, Oba Pius Oluwole, for care and reunion with their families.
“The monarch commended the Army for its swift action and renewed efforts to secure the region,” Okoye added.
He further noted that the troops would continue aggressive patrols and clearance operations across Kwara and neighbouring states to dismantle criminal networks operating from forested hideouts.
