Tension as SUG president Suspended Indefinitely over ‘Stampede’ during Distribution of Government Palliative

The President of the Students’ Union Government at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, NSUK, Comrade Buhari Ari Ibrahim, also known as Bombay, has been indefinitely suspended from his position, effective immediately.

The Union’s Legislative Arm made this decision due to alleged abuse of office and gross misconduct.

A letter issued on March 26, after an emergency plenary session at the university’s Faculty of Law Moot Court, outlined five charges leading to his suspension.

The letter stated that the suspension adhered to Article Six, Section 5(2)(c) of the union’s constitution.

The charges against Buhari included the failure to establish proper procedures for distributing state government-provided palliatives to students.

He is accused of creating a ‘palliative beneficiary card’ without Senate consultation, which resulted in a deadly stampede, causing student fatalities and numerous injuries.

Other offenses include failure to appear before a committee of investigation set up by the Senate, failure to call and preside over EXCO meetings as directed by the Senate, inaccessibility, and failure to obtain the signatory of the union account.

The Senate, therefore, directed Buhari to hand over the affairs of the union and all documents in his possession to his Vice, Rasheedah Aroke, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation by a committee.

Additionally, he was warned not to be seen around the SUG Secretariat or have access to the union’s documents.

The suspension was resolved during a plenary session following a motion moved by Senator Emmanuel Jeremiah Ablaba and seconded by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Business, Senator Abdulkareem Anzaku.
