Telegram has unveiled new features for non-fungible tokens (NFTs), along with other enhancements.

The Telegram also introduced a verification system as part of a set of new updates to fight against fraudulent activities on its platform.

The features include third-party account verification, enhanced search filters, and the ability to turn gifts into NFTs (non-fungible tokens).

In a recent blog post, Telegram said the new verification feature also aims to curb misinformation while increasing security and trust within the community.

The development means that the verification feature — previously limited to public figures and organisations — will now be extended to trusted third-party authorities such as regulatory bodies and educational institution.

In addition, the cloud-based messaging platform said verified accounts will display a unique logo instead of the traditional blue checkmark, making them easier to identify.

“This decentralised platform for additional verification will help prevent scams and reduce misinformation — with a unique proactive solution that sets a new safety standard for social platforms,” the post reads.

The firm said users or organisations must complete an application process to qualify for verification.

The Telegram bot API also enables verified organizations to control the verification status of their associated accounts.

“These accounts will prominently display the organization’s logo on their profile,” the company said.

Aside from the verification feature, Telegram said users can now convert gifts into NFTs, which can be traded on various platforms.

The blog post noted that Telegram would charge an undisclosed amount as fees to cover blockchain transaction costs when NFTs are traded.

Other updates include a new emoji reaction feature for service messages, such as when someone joins a group, and improved search filters for private chats, group chats, and channels
