Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Abioye, has alleged that officers of the Nigeria Police Force arrested commission staff on election duty across the state.
In a statement released via the commission’s official X page on Saturday, Abioye commended voters for turning out to exercise their rights despite the challenges.
He also apologised to the media for the commission’s inability to provide accreditation materials, attributing the issue to the police sealing off the OSSIEC headquarters, where the materials were stored.
Abioye further explained that, delays in some polling units were caused by the police arresting officials responsible for delivering election materials. However, he assured that new materials had been dispatched, allowing voting to continue.
“Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested staff of the commission who are on election duty across the state,” Abioye stated.
