Collapsed Mining Site kills 13 in Plateau

No fewer than 13 persons have been killed in a collapsed mining site in Bassa Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau.

Joshua Riti, the Chairman of the LGA, confirmed this to newsmen on Monday in Jos.

Riti, who expressed sadness over the number of deaths recorded, said that the incident occurred last Saturday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the collapsed mining site is located at the boundaries between Bassa, Jos South and Jos North LGAs.

“This is an unfortunate incident, these young people were only out in search of a means of livelihood.

“They went out to put their energies to good use to sustain and meet up with the current economic hardship in the country but met their untimely death. I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy,” he said.

NAN also reports that most of the deceased were youths between 18 and 30 years old

JUST IN: Police Finally Reveals Real Cause Of Kano Explosion, Retracts Earlier Statement

Almost a week after the unexpected explosion that heavily shook part of Kano, the state Police Command has confirmed that last Tuesday’s explosion that hit Aba road in Sabon Gari area was from Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

Recall that the Police authorities had said the explosion was as of gas cylinder explosion which reared a building in pieces and killed at least nine people

In a fresh statement containing the new development on Sunday, police said two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The statement said this followed an outcome of investigation by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense, EOD-CBRN, and Operation Puff Ader.

Also, names of the victims who died in the explosion and whose bodies were recovered and names released by the Police were Ejike Vincent (welder), Michael Adejo (chemical seller), Musa Kalla (tea seller), Christiana Abosede and Mary.

Others were Austin Dada, Madam Owoleke, Omo Ben and Bose Oladapo

Following the explosion that rocked the surroundings of private schools in kano, some people, including schoolchildren were reportedly dead or injured at Aba Road, Sabon Gari area of Kano on Tuesday.

It was initially gathered that the explosion emanated from a bomb. Meanwhile, the Kano State Police Command said it was caused by a gas explosion and confirmed four people dead so far
