Sultan Tells Nigerian Muslims When To Look Out For Cresent Of Ramadan

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged the Nigerian Muslim Ummah to look out for the crescent of Ramadan after the sunset today, the equivalent to 29th day of Sha’aban 1443 AH.

He gave the directive in a statement yesterday by NSCIA’s Director of Administration, Zubairu Haruna Usman-Ugwu.

The statement said the Sultan would declare April 2, 2022 as the first day of Ramadan 1443 AH, if the crescent is sighted by Muslims of impeccable character this evening.

But it said if the crescent is not sighted tonight, Sunday, April 3, 2022, will automatically become the first day of Ramadan, 1443 AH.

The Sultan also urged Muslims to report credible and positive sightings of the crescent of Ramadan to the established and traditional Islamic leaders in each locality or members of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC).

The NSCIA leader urged endowed Muslims in the country to extend acts of charity to the less privileged within their communities before, during and after the month of Ramadan. It also admonished traders to neither hoard food products nor unduly hike the prices of consumer goods unnecessarily during the period of the fast.

The statement said: “Fasting brothers and sisters should ensure they have enough rest and consume sufficient fluid after each day’s fast…”
