The Presidency has dismissed the viral report claiming that President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to meet with United States Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, refuted the report, describing it as fake news. In his statement, Ajayi criticised Sahara Reporters for spreading what he termed “fake news.”
Recall that Sahara Reporters had alleged that Tinubu’s visit would include high-level diplomatic engagements with the U.S. government and that President Donald Trump had delegated his vice president, James David Vance, to meet with Tinubu during the visit, barring any last-minute changes.
However, Ajayi clarified that if President Tinubu were to visit the White House, he would meet directly with President Trump and not the Vice President.
Ajayi wrote, “There is a Sahara Reporters’ story that President Tinubu is going to the US on Tuesday to see US Vice President J.D. Vance. That story is not true. I can see that the fake news by Sahara has become the basis for some uninformed commentaries since yesterday. If President Tinubu is going to the White House, he won’t be going to see a Vice President.”
Since President Trump’s military threat against Nigeria, reactions have poured in from various quarters, with some analysts urging the Nigerian government to engage experienced diplomats to initiate constructive dialogue with U.S. authorities.
