The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano has suspended two top officials, State Secretary to the Government (SSG) Dr Abdullahi Baffa Bichi and Commissioner for Transport Muhammad Diggol.
The suspension is relied on allegations of disrespecting the party and its leadership.
iDeemlawful reported that a faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party had disowned Kwankwaso movement, popularly regard as Kwankwasiyya.
The denouncement was taken farther by setting ablaze – identifier of the Kwankwasiyya movement – red caps.
The suspension, announced by state party chairman Hashimu Sulaiman Dungurawa on following multiple complaints from ward and local government leadership.
According to Dungurawa, the party received formal complaint letters from the duo’s wards and local government, confirming allegations of disrespect.
“The party cannot tolerate actions that undermine its leadership and structure,” Dungurawa emphasised.
Sources within the party reveal that Dr. Bichi had been at odds with a powerful figure within the party, who felt Bichi wasn’t loyal enough.
Bichi’s loyalty is believed to lie with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The suspension comes amidst speculation that Bichi may defect to the All Progressive Congress (APC), a party he previously belonged to before joining NNPP. His sister recently defected to APC, hinting that her brother would follow suit.
The development has sparked concerns about the internal crisis within NNPP, with potential implications for the party’s stability.
