My administration has met yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians — Buhari

The Peoples Democratic Party has expressed dissatisfaction over the claim by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), that he had done his best for the country.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Abdullahi Ibrahim, said President Buhari had failed in governance and had refused to acknowledge it.

Speaking in an interview

with our source on Thursday, Ibrahim said the economy and general situation in the country had gone worse than it was in 2015 when Buhari took over the mantle of leadership.

He said, “I will tell you that Nigerians have not had it this bad, and by now, one would have expected an outgoing President to express remorse and regret in the manner he has led this country, in the manner he has retrogressed our economy, in the manner he has reduced our worth and in the manner he has complicated the issues.

One would have expected the President to be speaking with remorse and regrets, but it’s unfortunate as we can see. We have people who have failed this country and have refused to realise the fact that they have failed.

“We have people who are not in tune with the reality out there on the ground or who have chosen to be arrogant in the face of uncommon failure or who have chosen to be both because of the lack of understanding and the arrogance they have brought to bear in the time they have governed this country within the last seven and half years.”

He added that, “The President can go ahead and say whatever he wants to say, but it doesn’t translate to about 10 per cent of what’s on the ground and no reasonable and discerning mind in this country is willing to listen to the President, let alone believing what he said.”

However, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, in his reaction to the President’s statement, said that Buhari had acquitted himself and discharged his duties credibly.

Morka noted that the economic crisis in Nigeria was not peculiar to the country, describing it (crisis) as a global trend which had affected stronger economies with strong industrial complexities in the world.

Talking about security challenges, he said the President met a lousy security situation on the ground and had done his best in pushing the terrorists into their shadows.
