OYO NLC commend Governor Makinde on 13th-month Salary Payment

The National Labour Congress (NLC) OYO state chapter has commended the state Governor (Seyi makinde) for keeping to his promise by paying the 13th-month salary to the state workers.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has kept to his promise to pay the 13th-month salary to workers in the state as workers in the state received payment on Monday evening.

The development excited the workers, as the Chairman of the state Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Kayode Martins, said, “Payment of the 13th-month salary after both December salary and wage award had been paid earlier is very commendable and shows the governor’s commitment to workers’ welfare.

“This will be the sixth time consecutively of the Governor ‘Seyi Makinde administration.

“On behalf of the entire workforce of Oyo State and the pensioners, I’m using this medium to appreciate the benevolence of His Excellency.

“He has proven again and again that he is the most workers’ friendly governor of our time.”

Earlier, in a statement on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, said the payment was, despite the cumulative payment of N77bn which the government spends yearly for salaries and wages of workers.

“Only two weeks ago, Governor Makinde approved the payment of N80,000 minimum wage for government workers after the issue of the consequential adjustment had been resolved by the negotiating council.

“From January 1, 2025, a total sum of N143bn on salaries and wages annually will now be paid by the government in keeping with the approval of the new minimum wage.

“This represents a whopping 86 per cent increase in salaries and wages,” Oyelade said.
