The Nigeria Police Force has laid-off a viral video circulating on social media that shows uniformed personnel in camouflage allegedly scooping fuel from the wreckage of a tanker accident.

According to a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the individuals seen in the footage are from a neighboring francophone country whose camouflage uniforms closely resemble those of the Nigerian police.

The statement strongly condemned the circulation of unverified content designed to tarnish the image of the police. The statement reads: “The viral video circulating in the media that depicts uniformed personnel in camouflage scooping fuel from the wreckage of an accidented tanker was just released to discredit the Nigeria Police Force. It is essential to clarify that the individuals in the video are not officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

They are uniformed personnel from a neighbouring francophone country whose camouflage uniforms bear a resemblance to the Nigeria Police’s.”

According to the statement, the officers in the video were speaking in French rather than any Nigerian language or English.

“The captured officers were speaking in French, not a Nigerian language or English.”

Checks by Intel Region also revealed the the uniform men are not personnel of the Nigerian Police Force(NPF) but Uganda Police

It was observed that the video first emerged in 2022 on X and was posted by Kifefe Kizza-Besigye, an Ugandan medical doctor with username @kizzabesigye1.

Kifefe in sharing the footage had lamented the corruption in the security agency and called for an end to the unbecoming act in the country.“These policemen are engaged in extremely risky siphoning of fuel from an overturned fuel tanker due to the Failure To Thrive (FTT) crisis!!

You can imagine what they do with less risky (illegal) operations. Let’s all say: Enough is Enough!” he posted.
