Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Tuesday resumed her legislative duties in her Senate office.
This came after the unsealing of her office, located in Suite 205 of the Senate Wing, earlier in the day.
The lawmaker representing Kogi Central was suspended on March 6 following a confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over claims of bias and mismanagement of legislative affairs.
The Senate accused her of “unparliamentary conduct,” which led to her six-month suspension.
During her suspension, Akpoti-Uduaghan contested the decision in court, insisting it breached her constitutional mandate to represent her constituents.
The matter drew further attention as advocacy groups pressured the Senate leadership, cautioning that keeping elected representatives out of office weakened democracy.
On Tuesday, after National Assembly staff reopened her office, the senator promptly returned to her legislative seat.
Speaking to journalists, she declared that she had no apologies to offer.
“It is good to put institutions to the test; no one is more Nigerian than us. Senator Akpabio is not more of a senator than I am, and he treated me like I was his servant. We cannot cower in the face of injustice.
“Even though I was suspended illegally, I effectively carried out my duties as a senator to Kogi Central because I didn’t want them to suffer neglect,” she said.
