Security operatives have blocked the suspended senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, from gaining access to the Senate chamber.

Earlier reports has it that Natasha had vowed on Saturday to resume sitting on Tuesday, July 22.

The senator cited a recent judgment by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja to justify her position.

However, in a counter-statement released on Sunday, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, dismissed the ruling claimed by the lawmaker.

Senator Yemi Adaramodu clarified that the court merely offered an “advisory opinion” and not a compulsory directive to the upper legislative chamber.

But the Kogi Central senator insisted on resuming her duties.

On Tuesday, the senator made good her vow to resume at the National Assembly despite the Senate’s insistence on her suspension.

The Kogi Central lawmaker, who rode in a black car, however, saw her convoy stopped by security operatives at the first gate of the National Assembly.

The car in front of her, carrying activist Aisha Yesufu, was also stopped from entering the National Assembly.

After some minutes, Senator Natasha alighted from her car and walked into the National Assembly premises in Abuja, accompanied by her supporters.

She was stopped again at the 2nd gate of the National Assembly and asked to turn back. However, the senator and her supporters make their way past the checkpoint only to meet a locked gate.
