As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu presents his list of 28 ministerial nominees to the Senate, Nigerians express mixed feelings about the choices.

Ministerial nominees

Some expected a cabinet filled with technocrats but were disappointed to find known political figures.

As the screening process begins, there are uncertainties surrounding the nominees from various states due to conflicting interests and political rivalries.

States Grapple with Internal Struggles

In Lagos, Tinubu faces challenges in finalizing a nominee amid contending interests from Ambode Akinwunmi, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Remi Tinubu. In Ogun, opposition rises against Bayo Onanuga due to his controversial statements and clashes with APC stakeholders.

In Bayelsa, Goodluck Jonathan and Timipre Sylva’s conflicting interests require resolution.

The situation in Kano remains complex, with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Abdullahi Ganduje’s opposing views. Kebbi also faces contention regarding the nomination of Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.

Tensions in Kogi and Yobe

Kogi witnesses tension between Governor Yahaya Bello and James Faleke, both vying for a ministerial slot.

In Yobe, Ahmad Lawan, Mai Mala Buni, and Mohammed Hassan are embroiled in a power struggle. Zamfara experiences a unique situation as Kabiru Marafa and Bello Matawalle vie for the only available slot.

Senate Commences Thorough Screening Process

The Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu, assures that the screening process will be rigorous, without any “take a bow and go” approach.

The 10th Senate aims to thoroughly examine the character, experiences, and background of the nominees.

The confirmation hearings will begin, with each nominee facing extensive questioning. The Senate vows to meet the expectations of Nigerians and prioritize the nation’s interests.
