Impeached Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, on Thursday presided over the State House of Assembly’s plenary session.

Obasa had stormed the house moments after his security details were restored while those of the Speaker, Mojisola Meranda were withdrawn in preparation for his return.

He, however, made what was described as a triumphant return to the House for the first time after he was impeached by 36 lawmakers on January 13.

Akande panel Overruled as Tinubu meets Obasa, Meranda other Lawmakers – Report Emerges

Obasa objected to the decision on grounds that the process was illegal and took the matter to court.

On Thursday, he returned to the Assembly to preside over a plenary with a few lawmakers in attendance.

They include Hon. Nuraini Akinsanya, Hon. Yinka Eso, Hon. Jubreel Kareem and Hon. Noheem Adams.

Obasa in his speech, noted the pivotal role of the legislative arm in democracy.

In his own remark, the Majority Leader, Hon. Adams, lavished praise on Obasa and moved the motion for a postponement of the sitting due to a power failure.

Meanwhile, some members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have rejected the dramatic return of Mudashiru Obasa as the Speaker of the assembly.

They said Mojisola Meranda, elected following Obasa’s removal on January 13, remains the speaker of the parliament.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Security and Strategy, Steven Ogundipe, stated that they remain committed to ensuring that Obasa’s removal stands.

“He was not elected as Speaker by his constituency. We endured his master-slave leadership for nearly a decade. Now, we’ve had enough, and we’re not backing down,” he stated
