The Organised Labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), have insisted on proceeding with the indefinite strike action scheduled to commence on Monday, 3rd June, 2024.

This is as the leadership of the National Assembly led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio called for a return to the negotiation table.

Recall that labour leaders and the government delegation held a meeting on Sunday as part of last-minute efforts to avert a nationwide strike over the new minimum wage.

During the discussion, Ajaero noted that what they are fighting for is living wages for workers and not a starvation wage.

He noted that the workers in question are brothers and sisters of the lawmakers and the ministers, stressing that they need to work for Nigerians.

On his part, the TUC counterpart, Festus Osifo who noted that the current situation in the country was difficult for Nigerians, especially in the last one year, said that it has also resulted in the difficulty in negotiating a new minimum wage for workers.

After the meeting, the organized labour said that their planned indefinite strike action over the new minimum wage would proceed as scheduled.

The labour added that they would meet and discuss the appeal made by the leadership of the National Assembly in need to suspend the proposed strike and allow for more dialogue with its organs before taking a final decision.
