There was mild drama at the Area Court in Igboro, Ilorin, Kwara State, after a woman identified as Mulikat Yusuf fainted when her husband, Ishaq Abdulganiyu, insisted on proceeding with a divorce despite her emotional plea for reconciliation.
According to The PUNCH, the incident occurred on Wednesday during proceedings before Judge Toyin Aluko.
Abdulganiyu told the court he was no longer interested in the marriage, citing frequent disagreements.
“I’m tired of the marriage, My Lord. We’ve had several issues, and I don’t see any reason to continue,” he reportedly said.
In tears, Mulikat begged the court to intervene, saying she had nowhere else to go.
“My Lord, please talk to him. I’ve given birth to six children for him. I still want this marriage to work,” she pleaded.
However, her husband remained unmoved, insisting that the marriage was over. Moments later, Mulikat left the courtroom in tears but suddenly collapsed outside, causing panic among court officials and onlookers.
Spectators rushed to her aid and revived her by pouring water on her face. A court official later confirmed that she regained consciousness after a few minutes and was helped to a bench to rest.
“She fainted right after he reaffirmed he wouldn’t change his decision,” the official said.
Presiding Judge Toyin Aluko urged the couple to consider reconciliation and try to settle their issues amicably.
The case was adjourned until December 10, 2025, for a report on reconciliation efforts or continuation of the hearing.
