The Elders Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara Central has criticised former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, over his recent comments on insecurity in the state.
In a statement signed by the caucus spokesperson, Sulaiman Sheu Abdulsalam (Cement), the elders accused Saraki of “falling short of being an elder statesman and patriot” by playing politics with an issue that affects citizens in Kwara and other parts of Nigeria.
The group argued that security challenges have existed since the administrations of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, insisting they are not peculiar to Kwara State.
Commending Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s security efforts, the caucus highlighted the recruitment of 3,000 forest guards, support for vigilantes, their enrolment in the state health insurance scheme, and collaboration with the National Security Adviser’s office as key achievements.
Expressing dismay at Saraki’s “chameleonic traits,” the elders accused him of fraternising with APC leaders in Abuja while attacking the party in Kwara.
They described Saraki’s stance as proof of desperation, adding that “no amount of attack or blackmail from Saraki will return Kwara to the dynasty’s black era.”
