A 26-year-old final-year student of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has died while attempting to terminate a six-month pregnancy at a private clinic.
According to Zagazola, the tragic incident occurred on August 26, 2025, at Al-Hassan Clinic and Maternity, Sarkin Noma, Lokoja.
The deceased, identified as Omotosho Dorcas, was six months pregnant and reportedly went to the clinic for the abortion procedure but died during the process.
“In the process of the abortion, she bled to death,” sources told Zagazola.
Police detectives were said to have visited the scene, taken photographs, and evacuated the body to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, for preservation.
Sources further revealed that the suspect responsible for carrying out the procedure has been arrested, and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
This is not the first time such a tragic incident has occurred.
In 2020, Gift Imoluamen, a student of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, also lost her life while attempting to procure an abortion after she was allegedly impregnated by the pastor of a popular church in the school town.
Imoluamen, a 300-level Political Science student at the time, was said to have been impregnated by Pastor Emma Akhime of the House of Levite Chapel, located at Idumebo in Edo State.
