A 22-year-old resident of Kawo, Samson Kingsley, was sentenced to 12 strokes of the cane by a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for stealing ceiling fans valued at ₦160,000.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel presided over the case, where Kingsley pleaded guilty to charges of theft and trespass. In delivering the sentence, the magistrate emphasized the importance of avoiding future criminal activities.

During the proceedings, Kingsley sought leniency, attributing his actions to peer pressure. The prosecution, led by Inspector Chidi Leo, outlined that the theft occurred on April 19, when Kingsley was caught stealing ceiling fans belonging to neighbor Rabiu Abubakar.
