The Joint Admissions Administration Board, JAMB, in collaboration with the country’s apex bank, Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has said that e-naira is the preferred payment mode chosen for 2023 UTME registration.

The CBN Director, IT, Architecture and Strategy, Rakiya Mohammed, who was represented by Abdul Shedrack, made this known while speaking with the board and its financial partners.

She explained that the adoption of the e-naira would eliminate extortion of candidate, adding that it would reduce the overall indirect cost of cash transactions on the broader community while blocking leakages in the board’s transactions.

She added that it would also promote the digitisation of cash and facilitate the development of e-commerce, enable a reliable mechanism for issuance of bulk JAMB e-PINs, as well as support and promote the implementation of government policies.

Mohammed further allayed fears explaining that the e-naira is the digital version of the naira currency saying it had equal value and is backed by law. Adding that it would function as a safe and efficient alternative means of payment which is seamless and fortified against any form of abuse.

Candidates are therefore urged to download and install the eWallet from its website or via Google Play Store or Apple IOS Store
