Meranda presides over Lagos Assembly plenary amidst Tension

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda is currently presiding over plenary at the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The sitting held amid the invasion of officials of the Department of State Services who had earlier sealed the chamber and office of the Speaker on Monday morning.

The DSS officials clashed physically with legislative staff at the chamber’s exit door.

The lawmakers had earlier forced their way into the chamber around 12:30 pm amid solidarity support from the assembly workers.

iDeemlawful NG reports that the workers later overpowered the DSS officials at the door.

The plenary session is currently underway, shrouded in uncertainty.

The crisis at the assembly deepens amid a leadership tussle between ousted Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and Meranda.

IDeemlawful NG reported that the plenary scheduled for Monday morning was yet to commence as security officials took over the assembly complex.

At least 10 police vans are parked outside the Lagos Assembly gate.
