US President Joe Biden has announced the formation of a delegation to celebrate the inauguration of Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on May 29.


This was stated in a White House statement for Monday, May 22, 2023. At least 65 world leaders, including heads of state, were invited to Tinubu’s inauguration ceremony.


Tinubu will be sworn in as the 16th President of Nigeria on May 29 at the Eagle Square in Abuja. Former presidents, diplomats, leaders of international organisations, prominent Nigerians and representatives of foreign governments and institutions are expected to attend Nigeria’s seventh transition ceremony.


The inauguration program begins on Thursday with the investiture of Tinubu as Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic and Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima as Commander-in-Chief of the Order of the Niger.

Representatives of Nigeria’s traditional allies, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, France, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, China, Germany, Finland, Jamaica, Japan, Israel and Turkey, are expected to attend the summit. profile story.


Before the inauguration ceremony, Biden announced a nine-member delegation to the event in a statement on Monday. The delegation will be led by the US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Marcia L. Fudge.

Presidential delegation includes: Mr. David Green, Deputy Ambassador, US Embassy Abuja; Honorable Sidney Kamlager-Dove, US Representative, California (D); The Honorable Marisa Lago, Secretary for International Trade, US Department of Commerce. Commercial Department; US Commander General Michael E. Langley. Africa Command.

Others: Honorable Enoch T. Ebong, Director USA. Office of Trade and Development, The Honorable Mary Catherine P., US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa. Department of State; the Honorable Judd Devermont, Special Assistant to the President and senior Director for African Affairs at the National Security Council, and Monde Muyangwa, Deputy Director, United States Office of Africa. Agency for International Development.

For the inauguration ceremony on May 27, former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta will deliver a lecture on “Deepening Democracy for Integration and Development”.


Other events include a solidarity lunch in honor of the Commander-in-Chief at the Army Officers’ Night event scheduled for Tuesday, May 23;

the farewell meeting of the Federal Executive Committee in the Parliamentary Chamber of the Presidential Palace on May 24;

Public lecture and Friday prayer at the National Mosque on May 26;

Parade and children’s party on May 27, interfaith service held at the National Christian Center.

Additionally, an inauguration/gala dinner will be held at the Capitol on May 28, and

an inauguration/investigation ceremony for the president-elect and vice president will be held along with an eagle inauguration parade square on May 29.


After the inauguration ceremony, a post-inauguration dinner will be held at the banquet hall of the State Council, in the presence of the president’s colleagues, heads of government and guests.
