The Federal Government has declared “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation” as the official theme for the 2025 Independence Day celebrations.
Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), made this known in a statement issued Wednesday in Abuja.
According to him, the theme underscores the importance of unity, patriotism and collective responsibility among government bodies, the private sector, civil society and citizens to advance peace, prosperity and progress.
The statement added that the choice reflects Nigeria’s resilience since independence in 1960, highlighting the need to consolidate past achievements while aiming for greater national goals under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Government institutions and partners have been directed to align their activities with the anniversary theme to ensure it resonates across all areas of national life.
Activities scheduled for the 65th Independence anniversary include a Juma’at prayer on Friday, September 26, followed by an inter-denominational church service on Sunday, September 28, and a World Press Conference in Abuja on Monday, September 29.
Nigeria gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, and became a republic in 1963. October 1 remains a public holiday marked by cultural events and community gatherings nationwide.
