The death of popular Yoruba actor and director Murphy Afolabi comes less than 24 hours after popular Nollywood actor Saint Obi was reported to have passed away.
The actor, who plays roles in Yoruba movies, is reported to have collapsed in the bathroom of his home in Ikorodu, Lagos on Sunday morning, May 14, 2023.
Filmmaker and president of the Yoruba Film Directors Guild, Seun Olaija, shared the sad news on WhatsApp, a platform created by filmmakers who wrote that: “I swear to God I was still praising him right before the news. It was really a rude shock to me. “
It was also corroborated by the Managing Director, Corporate Pictures Nigeria Limited, a popular movie marketing company, Abdullahi Abdulrasaq.
Seun Oloketuyi, a celebrity in the entertainment industry and convener of the Nollywood Best Awards, also confirmed the news to this reporter. He said, “It is true. He died this morning after falling in the bathroom of his house in Ikorodu. “
Another filmmaker, Tunde Ola-Yusuf, posted a picture of the late actor on Facebook with the words: “Rest in peace. May God give the family and close partners courage to bear the loss. Good night, Murphy Afrabi. “
Another filmmaker, Fidel Duker, wrote: “What the hell happened? I’m just now watching his movies.”
However, some Yoruba actors were seen making comments and sympathizing with the families of the deceased.
Afolabi was born on May 5, 1974 and entered the movie industry in 2001.
He graduated from Ire Institute of Technology, Osun State and has acted in over 60 movies in his lifetime. Some of the films include “Ifa Olokun”, “Omowunmi”, “Jimi Bendel”, “Wasila Coded”, “Olokiki Oru” and “Idera”.
