This is a similar scenario that played out at the Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on September 20, 2023.

The tribunal judges failed to appear in court and delivered the judgement virtually.

The tribunals in its ruling sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, declaring the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the March 18 election and ordered the withdrawal of the certificate of return which INEC presented to Governor Yusuf and directed a certificate of return to be issued to Nasir Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Yusuf, who contested on the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) platform, was declared the election winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

While Nasir Gawuna, his APC rival, congratulated him, the party proceeded to court.

Meanwhile, Abba had headed to appeal court after rejecting the tribunal’s ruling favouring Gawuna
