Council Chairman, Two others Killed as APC, PDP Clash in Osun

At least 3 poeple have been killed including the purportedly reinstated Chairman of Irewole Local Government, Osun State, Mr Remi Abass as clash between supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated in the state.

Earlier reports had that the conflict began when both parties attempted to enter the council secretariat, over controversy surrounding the Appeal Court judgement on sacked local government chairmen in the state.

It was gathered that the hoodlums, who were armed with cutlasses, guns, matchets, axes, broken bottles, and other dangerous weapons, displayed their weapons violently to register their presence in the invaded council areas and to get people scared from checking their ard activities.

Some of the councils where the presence of the thugs was felt are: Ayedaade, Boripe, Osogbo, Olorunda, Ila, Isokan, Irewole, Obokun, and Atakumosa local government areas of the state.

In Osogbo, heavy gunshots were recorded when PDP supporters and APC supporters clashed, while in Irewole local government in Ikire, there was a heavy clash between the PDP and APC supporters.

In Boripe LGA, hoodlums said to be members of the PDP shot two people dead.

An eyewitness account revealed that four persons were wounded in Iragbiji, Boripe local government area, and had been taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Similarly, suspeected thugs reportedly killed the recently reinstated Chairman of Irewole Local Government, Remi Abass, of the state.

The deceased chairman was killed after arriving at the local government secretariat with his supporters.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that security operatives from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested several suspected thugs who allegedly to caused chaos in the state.

When contacted Yemisi Opalola, the state police spokesperson, said she’s has not information on the incidents.

Previously, SaharaReporters reported that the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke had raised an alarm about an alleged plot by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, to instigate unrest in the state.

Last week, Adeleke accused Oyetola of issuing illegal directives to security operatives in an attempt to enforce the unlawful return of sacked local government chairmen.

As a press conference on Sunday, the governor alleged that Oyetola, in collaboration with the Osun State Commissioner of Police, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Commandant of the Civil Defence Corps, was using his connection as President Bola Tinubu’s nephew to push through illegal actions.

Adeleke had insisted that President Tinubu, whom he described as a true democrat, would not endorse actions capable of leading to bloodshed.

He warned that Oyetola’s alleged scheme, set to begin on Monday, could plunge Osun into chaos.

“The evil plot is being spearheaded by Mr. Gboyega Oyetola in active collaboration with security agencies. He is issuing illegal directives simply because he is the President’s nephew,” Adeleke had stated.

The governor clarified that the local government chairmen in question were sacked by two Federal High Court judgments before he assumed office.

He dismissed claims that his administration was responsible for their removal.

The governor had urged President Tinubu and the public to intervene and prevent what he described as an abuse of power that could destabilise Osun State.

“We see this as a gross betrayal of trust reposed in the Osun state security officers by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Adeleke had stated

Those of you that want PDP barbarism back at national level will not know peace. Amen 🙏🏽
