RICHARD A. SOLOMON, the Convener of Voice of the Youth Movement, one of the fastest growing youth organisation in Africa. The organization he founded is saddled with responsibility of liberating the young people, and has her change mantra as “THERE IS NO GOING BACK”.
In his words, Human rights are the basic rights and freedoms that belong to every person in the world, from birth until death. They apply regardless of where one is from, what one believes or how one chooses to live one’s life, and can never be taken away.
He averts that it’s a constitutional right of the citizens and their fundamental right guaranteed under section 39&40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that every citizen shall have a right to freedom of speech and a right to peaceful Assembly.
He advised the youth not to be discouraged but be an advocate of a better Nigeria, till we have a Nigeria that works for all where the son of a nobody can become somebody without anybody.
“we should never keep shut in the face of oppression, infringement of rights and abuse of our fundamental rights”
Youth uprisings are portrayed to be violent, deemed unnecessary and pointless, and many attempts has been made to keep young people silenced. This silencing is often achieved through the use of brutal and elevated forces.
On the final note, he saluted the good works of the frontiers of liberation who are boldly speaking about the ills of governance; it shows that we still have hope as a Nation.
On the flip side, he called on the Inspector General of Police to address the police not to engage in any illegal arrest, beating, barbarous treatment, brutality of citizens so they can have a peaceful protest.
