Management of the University of Ilorin has reacted to the daily transportation issues which has continued to threaten mobility of students to class.
University management is said to have adopted a proposal submitted by the Student Union for a two park system.
The two park system is designed to resolve persistent transportation issues faced by students.
The decision became necessary as the transportation issues on campus got to its peak upon resumption.
In a statement credited to the varsity’s Students union that “We have to transcend into a Modern System, a system that works.
“In an over 3-hour emergency and strategic meeting with the school management that had in attendance, the Vice Chancellor, the DVC Academics, the DVC Management, the University Bursar, The Librarian, The Dean, Student Affairs Unit, The Director of Works Department, The Physical Planning Unit, The Timetable and Room Usage and The Student Union President , we have taken necessary steps(which are explained below) in alleviating the transportation challenges and also achieving a serene environment, conductive for learning.”
“The new park will be at the school gate which will invariably break the journey into two. We will continue to work hand in hand with the management to ensure a better student experience for the students.
This restructuring is to ensure that general courses, especially science courses (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, etc) are spaced, such that not all 100Level students come to school the same day as the returning students, especially Thursday.
The Student Union also suggested decentralizing the school park and creating a temporary school park. The decentralization of the school park when implemented, will prove to be a pivotal step in making transportation easy on our campuses. This move is necessitated by the need to decongest the school park, and to ensure academic excellence amongst Unilorites.
Furthermore, the Works Department has deployed all working vehicles(Marco polo Buses, Coaster Buses and 30-seater Buses) to begin operations and start conveying students. In a similar vein, the road bumps are under review for reduction in number and in redesigning.
