The indigenes of Ife community had took spiritual dimension during protest against the varsity decision that Professor Adebayo Simeon Banire as OAU new VC.
The protest that ensued in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife minutes after the announcement of the Vice Chancellor by some aggrieved indigenes of the ancient city, the protesters on Monday went spiritual as some of them were seen in their full-blown traditional regalia.

According to what was gathered, the protest had take place in the early hours of Monday, main entrance to the institution and some strategic spots on campus including a couple of markets were blocked.
It shows the protesters are not happy about the emergence of non-ife indigene as the incoming Vice Chancellor of the institution, report shows.
The crux is that, indigenes are solely accusing the management of OAU of marginalisation for not picking competent ‘sons of the soil’ who are more than capable to steer the affairs of the varsity.
“that, ile-Ife has about ten professors actively working in the institution, and I think appointing one of them as the VC is not out of place”.
The Management of the University however made it known that the protesters are neither students of OAU nor staff and that, their position on the current situation on campus will be made known to journalists and the public soon.
