The National Association of Kwara State Law Students (NAKLAS) has held inauguration and swearing-in ceremony for newly elected executives. The event which drew the attention of distinguished audience that included senior legal practitioners, academics, and NAKLAS members from across the federation.
The ceremony marked the official transition of leadership, with outgoing president Mr. Abdullahi Soliu Dagbo handing over the mantle of leadership to his successor, Mr. AbdulRauf AbdulBasit.
Delivering his valedictory address, Mr. Dagbo highlighted the association’s journey and the foundational efforts of past leaders. He paid tribute to Mr. Moshood Ibrahim Olamilekan, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, and other pioneers who set the course for NAKLAS’s growth.
“Leadership is about service, and I trust the new executives to carry forward the legacy of dedication, transparency, and impact,” Mr. Dagbo stated, urging the incoming leaders to uphold the association’s values and foster unity among members.
The event featured a captivating keynote address by Mr. Taofiq K. Olateju, Esq., a senior associate at Yusuf Olaolu Ali & Co. (Ghalib Chambers) and the immediate past General Secretary of the NBA Ilorin.
Speaking on the topic, “The Limitation of Freedom of Expression in Nigeria: Strategic Laws Against Public Participation (SLAPP),” Mr. Olateju provided a comprehensive analysis of the legal, social, and ethical implications surrounding free expression in Nigeria.
His thought-provoking address challenged attendees to think critically about their roles as future lawyers in protecting public interests while navigating complex legal frameworks.
In his inaugural speech, Mr. AbdulRauf AbdulBasit set forth an ambitious vision for his administration. He pledged to strengthen collaboration with NAKLAS chapters nationwide, introduce reforms to enhance the association’s operations, and create impactful programs for members.
“Our mission is to rebuild and redefine NAKLAS (NHQ) by fostering unity, transparency, and innovation. Together, we shall bring this association to an unprecedented height,” Mr. AbdulBasit declared.
The event concluded with resounding support from members and stakeholders, signaling a renewed sense of purpose for the association. Observers noted the symbolic significance of the event as a demonstration of the association’s commitment to excellence and its readiness to face the challenges ahead.
