The Senate has confirmed Nyesom Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State, as a minister under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The confirmation took place during the screening of ministerial nominees submitted by Tinubu on Monday, July 31, 2023.
Wike, while presenting his Curriculum Vitae and achievements, expressed his passion for serving Nigeria, which motivated him to accept the ministerial offer.
During the screening, Senator Barinada Mpigi, representing River State, praised Wike as the best in the state and described him as a leader and role model.
Other lawmakers echoed the sentiment, acknowledging Wike’s remarkable work in Rivers State.
The Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, expressed awe at the impact of Wike’s governance in the state and questioned if he could replicate the same success as a Minister.
However, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, allowed Wike to take a bow and leave after the screening process.
