Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has taken significant steps to provide financial assistance to students and security agents in the state. The governor has directed the payment of N10,000 to each student of Kwara origin enrolled in public-owned tertiary institutions.
Additionally, a stipend of N10,000 has been approved for select categories of security agents who are recognized as the first line of defense.
The Announcement
The announcement was made by Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, through a statement on Tuesday.
Stating that the financial support will be disbursed through the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) Office.
Notably, this monetary palliative is unique in its scope, as it deviates from the previous bursary award system, which only covered final-year students of tertiary institutions. Under the new support scheme, all eligible students will benefit from this one-off assistance.
Committee for disbursement
The coordination of the students’ support will be overseen by a government committee led by Prof. Shehu Raheem Adaramaja, the Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB).
The committee will consist of officials from the Ministry of Tertiary Institution, the bursary department, the Ministry of Finance, and representatives from the National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Kwara State.
Mode of application
The Press Secretary to the Governor added that to nsure transparency and accessibility, the committee will publish a web link through which eligible students can apply for the state bursary support.
The dates for application and further instructions will be communicated by the committee in due course.
This initiative aims to provide much-needed relief to students and security agents, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the state’s progress and development.
