Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, popularly known as ‘The Oba,’ a celebrity native doctor, who was recently abducted in Anambra State, has shared the reason behind his decision not to disappear during the kidnappers’ raid.
According to Daily Trust reports, ‘The Oba’ regained his freedom on Saturday, July 29, after being kidnapped by suspected gunmen while having a pleasurable moment with his friends.
How it happened
The native doctor explained that he had received a call from his friends that day, inviting him to hang out at his hotel, where they were enjoying themselves.
However, his friends had already spent over N300,000, and they wanted him to help subsidize their expenses.
As Akwa set out for his hotel, he suddenly heard gunshots upon arrival. Some attackers targeted him, but miraculously, the bullet did not penetrate his body. Unfortunately, his two security aides lost their lives in the attack.
Why he didn’t disappeared
“I joined them to save lives of people in my hotel. I would have disappeared, but if I did, it would have triggered more killings. I followed them to save lives,” ‘The Oba’ bravely revealed.
He further stated that his abductors informed him of their motive for storming his hotel, but it was not specifically to abduct him.
They had mistakenly believed he owed some individuals money, but ‘The Oba’ asserted that he is financially capable and would have repaid any debt if necessary.
“The gunmen told me the reason they came to my hotel but certainly not for me. I only followed them to save the lives of my people and customers,” he said.
‘The Oba’s courageous act in the face of danger and his willingness to protect others even in a life-threatening situation have been hailed by many.
His ordeal serves as a reminder of the prevailing security challenges in certain parts of the country and the bravery displayed by ordinary citizens in such trying times.
