A 400- level student of English Education and news editor at the News Digest Press, Abdulwaheed Sofiullahi, has emerged winner of the campus writer competition. The award which had opened and contested by writers in campuses across the country was celebrated on 28 August in Abeokuta.
The ceremony featured winners of different categories. This includes best artiste of the year, most influential student of the year, campus blogger of the year, campus sport man/woman and best writer.
The awardee, Sofiullah, expressed his delightful impression. In an interview with the news digest press, he said: “I was impressed.”
He therefore encouraged students to be participating in extracurricular activities as it help a lot. He further advised fellow writers to learn and practise journalism without being selfish.
“As campus journalists, we tend to believe that being engaged in an extracurricular activity like journalism on campus is the best. It helps a lot more.
“However, my advice for fellow pen pushers is to learn and practise journalism without selfishness or claiming to be the mr or miss ‘know all’.”
He also advised that writers and journalists should be ready always.
“They should always be ready to create a room for brainstorming and learning to develop their writing skills. Journalism doesn’t want forceful shining, it shines whoever practices it well,” he said.
